Info for Visitors

If you are one of millions of visitors to our region each year, welcome! We are delighted you will get to experience the wild beauty of the place we call home.

When traveling, we know attending church is often a challenge. The logistics of trip-planning, the process of finding a like-minded church, and the potential awkwardness of an unfamiliar people and place are enough for many Christians not to attend church on vacation. Even so, gathering with God’s people to worship the Lord is always worth it. Not primarily because we get something out of it, but because of the glorious reality that God is worth it. John Stott, an Anglican pastor in London in the 20th century, once observed, “Worship is ‘worth-ship’, an acknowledgement of the worth of Almighty God.” So here is our invitation to you. When you are visiting our area, you are warmly welcomed to gather with us as we acknowledge the worth of Almighty God.

Where We Gather

We gather for worship at the former Lion Hill Baptist Church building at 112 3rd Avenue South, Martin City, Montana 59926. Park along the grass (or snow!) along the road on the north side of the church building.

What We Wear

Formal attire in our rugged Montana culture looks more like “farm-casual” than “business-casual.” Some of us wear our best pair of jeans or overalls. While others of us adorn a tie and sport coat. We are not the kind that keeps up with modern fashions so whatever you packed in your sack for your Montana adventure will work, we only ask that you sufficiently cover your delicate parts.

What We Sing

We sing a variety of songs that span the sweep of Christian history. We prioritize singing Scripture from the Psalms and words of the New Testament. This is supplemented by great hymns of the Christian faith as well as recently-written songs that are doctrinally-rich and Christ-exalting. We value the congregational voice and we are striving to learn to sing different parts to hear the beauty of one voice in harmony. Sometimes we are accompanied by piano, guitar, and occasionally even a mandolin and banjo.

How We Worship

We aim to worship in spirit and truth. God’s word is the truth that regulates worship. God’s Spirit is the spirit that that enlivens worship. Some Christian traditions would likely consider us “low-church” (informal liturgy) while others would consider us “high-church” (formal liturgy). We mostly come from “low-church” backgrounds but have been growing in a greater appreciation and practice of a historically-informed liturgical worship. “Mid-church” sounds tepid and we never want to be spewed by the Lord so, if you have to call us something, maybe you could call us “delightfully mild.” See Worship Gathering for further explanation for how and why we worship like we do.

How Long Will It Be?

Our call to worship begins at 10:00am (MT) each Sunday. We usually dismiss around 11:30am when we begin a transition to a time of fellowship. Currently, the members of the church host a weekly lunch. Visitors are never pressured but always welcome to stay for the meal.

We do not provide childcare during our worship gatherings but we do have nursery and toddler designated areas where parents can take their children as needed.
